Gonzaga Prep Cheer Tryout Information

We are interested in ATHLETES who are committed to pushing the cheer program forward. We are specifically looking for athletes who will cheer both fall and winter - it is not possible to commit to cheerleading and play a fall and/or winter Varsity sport. Cheerleading is a year long endeavor because of the program's need for stunt groups which stay consistent. Our cheer program is will be open to registered incoming freshmen (current 8th graders)  through "to be" senior (current juniors) enrolled students.

HERE IS THE APPLICATION TO TRYOUT FOR CHEER - this can be filled out anytime between now and Friday, March 27th by 11:59pm

Open Gyms for Tryout Preparation -held on the following dates in the MAIN Gonzaga Prep Gym
Please wear school-colored (navy, white) athletic wear with proper shoes (NO vans, converse, etc.) Hair up in a pony tail, no jewelry and please, NO BOWS! and of course...NO GUM!

◻ Attend tryout practices in the gym Monday 3/30, Tuesday 3/31 and Wednesday 4/1 all from 6-7:30pm.

◻ You must be a ENROLLED as freshman, sophomore, junior or senior for the '26-'27 school year.

◻ Have and maintain a minimum 2.8 GPA in the previous grading period and cumulative with NO failed classes (per WIAA regulations) although academically strong students will be more heavily considered because of the time commitment of cheer.

Grades, attendance and discipline records will be checked.

FIVE teacher feedback forms from CURRENT teachers (NOT your counselor). You are responsible for sending them the Google form WITH ENOUGH TIME for them to complete it. The completed forms are due in April 1st by 3:00pm.(NO EXCEPTIONS)

◻ We are looking for positive attitudes and members who will create an environment where members are uplifted and encouraged and not disparaged or talked about. We strive for an program that supports each other and the coaches. Eyerolling, gum chewing, disinterest, apathy, and most importantly - disrespect to coaches or current cheerleaders will NOT be tolerated and if demonstrated, will not earn you a spot on the team.

◻ Varsity spots and potential JV spots will be determined by tryout numbers and abilities. Typically we have about 16 varsity cheerleaders on our team. The coaches also have to factor availability of uniforms, competition divisions, in addition to program sustainability when we make our final determination. When you tryout, you are trying out for both Varsity and JV, so you would commit to one of those teams.

Tryout results will be emailed after school on Friday TBD.

If selected you must...

Commit to assigned practices and clinics starting in May and June (after school/evening) and summer from July 14th - August 21st, 2026 (typically we practice T-Th from 8:00am-9:30am or it might be T & Wed from 8:00-10:00am - depends on the week) and during the school year (3-4 times per week).  Must attend a minimum of practices this summer in order to cheer in the fall.
