In rodeo, Savannah Holbert had another strong weekend in Yelm. On Saturday, she took 1st in barrels, 4th in team roping, and 9th in breakaway. She came back Sunday with another 2nd-place finish in barrels and 4th in team roping. Savannah heads to Othello this weekend.
In the pool, Nina Emry had a record-setting day at the Mid-Columbia Invitational in Pasco for the girls swim team. Nina set two new school records, finishing 2nd in the 50 freestyle and 4th in the 100 freestyle. Both of those times are currently the fastest in 4A District 6. Brielle Schmidt also added two more District 6 qualifying times in the 200 IM and 100 butterfly. Shoutout to Lauren Brazil, who the previous weekend finished 3rd in the 100 free and 4th in the 50 free: both school records. The team is back in the pool Thursday at Kennewick.
On the football field, the Bullpups took on University Friday night. Quinn Mudd rushed for 104 yards, while Kellen Cronin connected with Jacob Wood on a 71-yard touchdown pass in the third quarter. On defense, Joe Pence recorded a sack, and Ross Parker came up with an interception. RESULT: Loss, 34-7. They travel to Mt. Spokane this week.
The volleyball team also had a big week in GSL play, picking up straight-set wins over both Ridgeline and Mead. Against Ridgeline, Mara Sandberg led with 15 kills, Jayna Humbert had 5 blocks, Cienna Pierpoint recorded 14 digs, and Parker Davis added 12 digs. Against Mead, Rowan Greenfield led the way with 12 kills, Gracie Chilimidos had 2 aces, and Cam Holbert recorded 12 digs. The Bullpups host Lewis and Clark Tuesday. Before Thursday's match, the team recognized a remarkable achievement: Senior Mara Sandberg tallied her 1,000th kill in their match vs. Post Falls earlier in September. Congratulations!
On the slowpitch field, the Bullpups battled Cheney to a 13-12 extra-inning victory on Monday. Anna Brodigan earned the win with a complete game and 4 strikeouts, while also contributing two hits and an RBI at the plate. Emma Laughlin and Berkley Lopez each had two hits, two RBIs, and a double. Sarah Wessman, Jaylynn Stewart, and Emma Loebach each reached base multiple times and scored twice. The Bullpups host Central Valley Ridgeline Tuesday.
The girls soccer team picked up two wins last week, shutting out Central Valley 2-0 on Wednesday before earning a 1-0 victory over Central Kitsap on Friday. Annika Mortvedt scored the game-sealing goal late in the second half against Central Kitsap. They host Central Valley again on Wednesday.
And finally, the girls cross country team traveled to Missoula for the Mountain West Classic, featuring some of the top teams from across the Pacific Northwest. In a varsity field of more than 420 runners, Erin McMahon finished 28th and Lucy Ladum finished 50th, helping the Bullpups earn a top-10 team finish out of 55 teams. The girls and boys teams begin their GSL run on Wednesday at Mt. Spokane.
At the Spokane Interstate Fair, Miranda Manley turned in an outstanding week of Equestrian competition, earning first-place finishes in Trail, English Pleasure, Bareback, Western Pleasure, Western Equitation, Ranch Rail, and Ping Pong Drop, along with a 2nd-place finish in Showmanship and English Equitation, a 2nd in Bi Wrangle, 3rd in Barrels, 4th in Pole Bending, and 5th in Speed Barrels. Miranda’s strong showing earned her Intermediate Champion in Performance and Grand Champion across all ages, and she also received a Sportsmanship Award.

The slowpitch team played twice last week. Against University, Emma Laughlin and Sophia Gum recorded hits, while Emma Loebach drove in a run with an RBI single. Then against Mead on Thursday, Gracie Rhyne had a double and Berkley Lopez went 1-for-2. The Bullpups host Cheney after school today.
On the football field, the Bullpups traveled to Kennewick Friday night. They’ll be back home this Friday for our Prep Pride game against University.
The volleyball team had a strong showing at the Yakima Sundome Tournament, finishing third overall after going undefeated in match play. The Bullpups picked up 2-0 wins over Seattle Academy, Walla Walla, Sunnyside, and Stanwood. They return home Thursday to host Mead.
The girls soccer team also picked up a big result, shutting out Pasco 8-0 on Saturday. Kaiya Weiler scored two goals, and Pearl Garabedian added a goal and two assists. The Bullpups travel to Central Valley this Wednesday.
In cross country, the girls took 2nd as a team at the Barbero Border Clash in Spokane Valley, led by three top-10 finishes. Erin McMahon was 4th, Claire Gee was 6th, and Lucy Ladum finished 10th. They compete at the Mountain Classic next weekend.
And the boys cross country team also finished 2nd as a team, competing at the Timberlake Invitational in Idaho. Miro Parr-Coffin took 1st overall, finishing six seconds ahead of the next runner, while Marshall Loew placed 12th. The team will look to keep that momentum going at The Course in two weeks.
SEPTEMBER 8
Slowpitch softball began the season with a strong offensive performance against East Valley, totaling 14 hits and 11 runs. Emma Loebach and Emma Laughlin each collected 3 hits, while Laughlin, Sophia Gum, and Jaylynn Stewart each drove in 2 runs. The Bullpups saved their biggest surge for the seventh inning, exploding for 7 runs on 6 hits. Slowpitch is back in action this afternoon as they host University High School.
Football opened the season Friday night against Regis Jesuit. Andrew Yarno rushed for a touchdown on the opening drive and finished the night with 2 touchdowns and 134 total yards. Jackson Monigold led the ground attack with 107 rushing yards, while Max Ramirez electrified the fourth quarter with a 70-yard kickoff return. And when it came time for the extra points, Paul Davidow was a perfect 4-for-4. The Bullpups hit the road this Friday to take on Kennewick High School.
Girls Soccer made a statement over the weekend with a 3-0 victory at Richland. Jazzy Arredondo led the offensive attack with 2 goals, while Amelia Pielli earned the clean sheet in goal. The Bullpups are back on the field tomorrow at Lewis and Clark.
The rest of our fall sports are ready to get rolling. Volleyball opens its season on Thursday at Post Falls, while our Cross Country teams begin their season Saturday with the Barbero Border Clash at The Course.
SUMMER 2026
Schrock advances in Drive, Chip & Putt
Gonzaga Prep sophomore Shea Schrock made his mark on the golf course this summer, competing in qualifiers and advancing to the Drive, Chip & Putt semifinals at Pebble Beach on Sept. 20. Shea will compete against 14 other West Coast qualifiers for a spot at Augusta National ahead of the 2027 Masters Tournament.
Three Gonzaga Prep wrestlers earn honors at Fargo Nationals
Gonzaga Prep wrestlers turned in strong performances at the Fargo Nationals, one of the nation’s largest and most competitive wrestling tournaments. Austin Schield captured the 16U Greco-Roman national championship at 138 pounds. He was joined on the podium by fellow Fargo All-Americans Ryder Owen, who placed fourth at 132 pounds, and Miro Parr-Coffin, who finished fifth at 106 pounds.
Savannah Holbert competes at National High School Finals Rodeo
Gonzaga Prep senior and barrel racer Savannah Holbert competed at the National High School Finals Rodeo in Lincoln, Nebraska in July, finishing 18th in the country. Last season, she won 10 rodeos and seven buckles, and was state champion barrel racer.
Bullpups perform at the Sydney Opera House
Three Gonzaga Prep students who are members of the Spokane Youth Symphony traveled down under, where they performed at the acclaimed Sydney Opera House this summer. What an incredible experience (L to R), Brendan Bittinger, Samuel Miller, and Nina Emry!
