Gonzaga Prep teachers recognized

Gonzaga Prep is known for its outstanding faculty who not only teach our students but also ensure that every student is known, loved, and seen. Each year, two educators are recognized for excellence in their craft.

DR. JACK AND MARILYN MCKENNA TEACHER OF THE YEAR
Siri Herzog
Gonzaga Prep’s Teacher of the Year for 2026 is Siri Herzog. She has been a member of Prep's faculty for 6 years, teaching courses at all levels within her department. In Siri’s sixth year at the school, she has stepped into several new leadership roles with remarkable passion, grace, and success. As Math Department Chair, she led a new curriculum development process and took on teaching AP Calculus.

A colleague writes: "She has established an incredible approach to mathematics across all classes through deep appreciation of the subject and ability to make it relevant for all students. "

Another writes: "She has an amazing ability to connect with every student, appropriately challenge them, and make math accessible. Above all, she wants every student to succeed."

Beyond the classroom, Siri embodies the mission and spirit of Gonzaga Prep by serving as a retreat leader, Senior Class moderator, and faculty association secretary, sacrificing her time in service to students and colleagues alike. Above all, Siri cares deeply about her students and this community, consistently going above and beyond to make Gonzaga Prep a better place for everyone.

The Dr. Jack and Marilyn McKenna Teacher of the Year Award. Dr. and Ms. McKenna were great supporters of Gonzaga Prep whose 2 foster children and 9 biological children all graduated from Prep. The McKennas had a special appreciation for the hard work and dedication of Prep’s faculty.


JSN IGNATIAN EDUCATOR OF THE YEAR
Sarah Long `09Gonzaga Prep’s JSN Educator of the Year is Ms. Sarah Long `09, a member of counseling department since 2018.

Now in her eighth year at Gonzaga Prep as a counselor and serving as the Counseling Department Chair, Sarah exemplifies what it means to educate and care for the whole person. She meets every student where they are, guiding each of her counselees with compassion, wisdom, and unwavering support. Through her work, she truly lives out the Jesuit value of cura personalis, ensuring that students are not only academically successful but also personally supported as they grow into thoughtful and capable young adults.

Sarah’s impact reaches well beyond the counseling office. She is a trusted leader whose insight and professionalism are relied upon across our entire school community. She is regularly asked to serve on hiring and administrator search committees. She tirelessly supports students, faculty, staff, and administration, always working to bring people together in service of Gonzaga Prep’s mission. Our community is stronger because of her leadership.

The JSN Educator of the Year award was established by Gonzaga Prep in 2003 to recognize the work of a person at Gonzaga Prep whose efforts have helped to maintain and improve our identity as a Christian academic institution devoted to inspiring leaders who create a more just and loving world.
