Seasons of love: When coeducation led to lifelong partnerships

Pup love
Fifty years of coeducation have shaped Gonzaga Prep in many ways—including marriages whose beginnings were sparked in classrooms, hallways, and friendships formed as Bullpups.

Each February in recent years, we’ve highlighted—often in a grassroots way—a feature called Pup Love, a lighthearted name for Bullpups who have married other Bullpups. It celebrates one of the most human outcomes of the decision to go coed: marriages that began in shared classrooms, friendships, and the daily experience of being Bullpups.

Before Gonzaga Prep welcomed young women, there was, of course, a long history of connections between Prep students and those at Marycliff or Holy Names. But until 1975, alumna–alumna marriages like these could not appear in our alumni record. Today, they stand as a living sign of how coeducation broadened our community—and how connections formed here can endure long after graduation. Keep reading for some stats and a photo gallery of pictures submitted by some of these alumni.

PUP LOVE SNAPSHOT
We keep records of basic information about our grads, often updated by our alumni. This snapshot of that data highlights some trends and fun facts among Gonzaga Prep alumni who married fellow alumni, based on our available records. If you have an update for our records, please let us know!
