THE GOLD BALL COMES HOME TO PREP. In a thrilling finish to a fantastic season, senior Brogan Howell’s fade-away jumper with 2.7 seconds left gave Bullpup boys basketball the 57-55 win for the 4A state title. The team’s success was truly a team effort, with the core group of Pups having played together since grade school.
SPOKANE SCHOLARS SUCCESS. In April, at the annual Spokane Scholars banquet, five of Prep’s best and brightest earned monetary awards for being among the top 5 in their nominated subject area.
BULLPUPS SHINE AT CHASE YOUTH AWARDS. It was most definitely Gonzaga Prep’s night to shine at the annual Chase Youth Awards ceremony, where Bullpups collected awards in nearly every category nominated. Congratulations to all of these students who embody the profile of the graduate through their service and involvement in the Spokane community.
SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM LAUNCHES. The Watkins Scholars program launched, offering up to $15,000 annually for 25 first-generation college-bound students, renewable for all four years. The program provides access to a comprehensive program designed to support students and their families for success at Gonzaga Prep and beyond.
BLOOD DRIVES EARN STEM GRANT. As the largest off-site blood drive in the region, Gonzaga Prep’s steady high participation not only saved lives, it also brought $5,000 for STEM programs at the school. Science teacher Karen Round `91 also received the Northwest Blood Coalition's inaugural Hero Award for her consistent service in coordinating blood drives at Gonzaga Prep. Round has been assisting or leading coordination efforts at Prep for 27 years.
LIVE ISS LINK WITH ASTRONAUT ANNE McCLAIN. In May, 1,300 elementary and middle school students in the greater Spokane area filled Scarpelli Gym and witnessed a live Q&A with NASA astronaut Col. Anne McClain `97, who was aboard the International Space Station. McClain returned to Earth in August after 148 days in space.
SENIORS PART OF NEW BOSTON COLLEGE PROGRAM. The first cohort of 10 Bullpups began their journey with the AMDG Program, as one of 25 Jesuit high schools, universities, and parishes invited to pilot a 2-year experience through Boston College's Institute for Advanced Jesuit Studies. Students convened with 240 other AMDG participants on BC's campus for the weeklong Ever to Excel program, an experience of faith and community through activities and games, small group discussions, keynote speakers, and fellowship. The formation experience culminates with a pilgrimage on the Camino Ignaciano in 2026.
50 YEARS OF COEDUCATION. On the first day of school, members of Gonzaga Prep’s first coed class returned to campus to mark 50 years since the historic change. That milestone traces back to Tuesday, Sept. 2, 1975, when 317 young women walked into what had been an all-boys Jesuit high school and reshaped the school’s future. Their arrival made Prep one of only four Jesuit high schools in the nation at the time to welcome women, opening a new chapter in its mission and history. MAGIS HALL OPENS AS HUB FOR ACADEMICS, FAITH, SERVICE. In less than a year, Magis Hall went from idea to funding to opening in the heart of campus, bringing the Academic Success Center, Learning Resource Center, Murphy Library, IT, and Mission & Ministry together in one place. The new facility strengthens Prep’s mission to form students in mind, body, and spirit through study, spirituality, and service.
CAMPAIGN LAUNCHES PUBLIC PHASE. The World Needs Bullpups Campaign entered its public phase, continuing momentum toward a $24M goal and surpassing $20M in December. Focused on expanding access to a Jesuit education, the campaign helps more students learn, lead, and serve for the greater good. By strengthening scholarships and student programs, it ensures families from every background can belong and thrive at Prep.
ACADEMIC STATE CHAMPS. Demonstrating excellence in the classroom as well as in their chosen co-curriculars, Gonzaga Prep choir, boys track, and volleyball teams were named academic state champs for their average GPAs.
BOYS CROSS COUNTRY 2ND AT STATE. Led by strong showings all season from senior Zach Frazier and freshman Miro Parr-Coffin, the Bullpup boys cross country team placed second at state in its first appearance as a team since 1997. The girls returned to state for the second consecutive year, finishing 8th.
FOOD DRIVE BRINGS IN RECORD AMOUNT. Recognizing an increased need in the community, Bullpups set an ambitious goal of 200,000 pounds of food and blew past it, collecting more than 227,000 pounds during the annual Thanksgiving Food Drive.
DECA CHAPTER ESTABLISHED. This fall, the first DECA chapter at Gonzaga Prep was established, and more than a dozen Pups competed in December at the Washington DECA Area 11 Conference at Spokane Falls Community College. The event brings together high school students from across the region to showcase their skills in business management, marketing, and entrepreneurship.
