Gonzaga Prep wrestling put on an unforgettable show at the 37th Mat Classic state tournament in Tacoma last weekend, delivering one of the most exciting performances in program history! The team finished second in the 4A Division, with 251.5 points—fueled by three individual STATE CHAMPIONS who rose to the moment on the biggest stage possible. Freshmen Miro Parr-Coffin and Austin Schield each battled through elite brackets to stand atop the podium as state champions! And Izzy Acosta picked up his 3rd consecutive state title crown, cementing his legacy as one of the GOATs. Karver Peasley and Ryder Owen fought their way to impressive runner-up finishes, showing elite-level toughness all tournament long. Adding to the incredible week was Brock Gustaveson, who finished 3rd, Will Jackson and Rocky Little, who finished 4th, Jordan Schield, who finished 6th, and Sam Kincaid, who finished 7th. Harrison Crooks, Tyson Weichman, and Rocco Gannon each picked up critical wins in their respective brackets, too. Congratulations to these wrestlers, their teammates, and coaches on an amazing season!
In more state tournament news, swimmer Cason Bentley placed 9th at the Boys 3A Swimming State Championships this weekend in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 59.98, just shy of his personal best. Way to represent, Cason!
Bowler Cody Hough placed 2nd in the Spokane County Youth Bowling Championship in Division A over the weekend.
At the State Qualifier Tournament on Saturday, 19 speech and debaters punched their ticket across seven different events. In Congress, Parker Ebel, Paul Shinnick, and Max Brodigan earned their spots with strong performances throughout the tournament. Gonzaga Prep will be well represented in Public Forum debate by Jack deGon and Antonio Trivino, as well as Ari Everitt and Grant Von Buchwaldt, while Ezra Ninemire qualified in Lincoln-Douglas debate. On the speech side, Connor Crinion advanced in Informative, Antonio Trivino and Gurnoor Gill qualified in Extemporaneous, and Jack deGon and Grant Von Buchwaldt earned qualification in Impromptu. Gonzaga Prep will also send two World Schools Debate teams to State, pending final seeding: Berkley Hestdalen, Creighton Condon, Esmund Weber, Connor Crinion, and Hattie Condon on Team One, and Isabel Hydzik, Maggie Edmison, Ian McComas, Annabelle Mischke, and Graham Carnagey on Team Two. An outstanding achievement by all—best of luck at State, which takes place at the University of Puget Sound March 19-21.
The Knowledge Bowl team wrapped up its season with a 5th-place finish at the Regional Tournament. Well done! Thank you to seniors Mason Hatzke, Mary Cornwell, Kam Pitts, Nolan Lemberg, Declan Donahue, and Stefen Schlegel for their career contributions.
The girls basketball team delivered a strong performance in their high-stakes district matchup at Chiawana, taking on one of the state’s top teams. The girls suffered their first loss of the season 59-52, with Aylah Cornwall leading the way with 21 points, relentlessly attacking and setting the offensive tone, while Laura Thompson dominated inside with 10 points and 6 rebounds. Belle Hernandez chipped in 13 points and provided a spark in several key moments. Next up, the girls play a first-round protected 4A State game in Woodinville this Saturday at North Creek High School (Bothell, WA). Tip-off is at noon.
The boys basketball team brought the fight in their district showdown at Richland, competing in one of the most electric environments of the season. In the 53-65 loss, Ryan Carney led the Bullpups with 14 points, attacking the basket and knocking down timely shots, while Jack Pierce added 10 points and 5 rebounds, playing with poise throughout the game. Jackson Mott owned the glass with 10 rebounds, battling inside to give his team extra possessions, and Dylynn Groves was dominant on both ends of the floor with 12 points and 9 rebounds. They play Glacier Peak in a protected opening round game of the 4A State tourney on Saturday at 2 p.m., immediately following the girls' game at North Creek.
FEBRUARY 17
The girls flag football team finished up its inaugural season with a win over Ferris, 49-14. Their defense carried the night with huge stops and scores. Annabelle Mischke grabbed a pick-six on the opening drive, and Bella Buckner added her own later in the game. Izzi Hydzik also had an interception to keep the Saxons at bay. Well done to the team on their amazing season! Thank you to seniors Julia Kosinski and Izzi for leading the team and helping make this historical debut happen!
In cheerleading news, captain Evelyn Nadalsky was crowned Miss Spokane Teen over the weekend. She will head to the Miss Washington Teen competition in June. Evelyn was also named Miss Congeniality for having the highest academic honors as well as the highest talent and interview scores. Congratulations! Thank you for representing Gonzaga Prep and the city of Spokane so well, Evelyn.
Over the weekend, 19 members of our bowling team participated in the Inland Northwest Youth Invitational Tournament. Our Division A and Division B teams were awarded the Team Sportsmanship Award. The individual award went to Cody Hough who placed 3rd in Single Division A. Cody and Parker Ebel followed up with Division A Champions in Double Division A with a combined average of 202 over three games. The team of Libby Frazier, Brayden Hoover, Aiden Roark, and Johnathan Nardini took 3rd place in Division C. Other individual score highlights included Luke Hills with a 228, Will Styren with a 217, Julieanna Miner with a 208, and Peyton Hoover 186. The Bowl Pups finished the tournament with a team average of 154 over 11 games, a new high tournament average in Prep Bowling. Their final Match is on March 8 at Lilac Lanes.
The boys basketball team put together a powerful offensive performance on Saturday in the District 6 playoffs as they cruised to a win over Hanford at home, 76-22. Four players finished with double-figure scoring. Jack Pierce led with 19 points on 8-of-9 shooting. Ryan Carney had 18 points, 11 rebounds, and 5 assists. Dylan Groves and Carter Nilson complimented the effort with 13 points and 10 points, respectively.
The girls basketball team was dominant on both ends of the floor in their opening round of the postseason versus Pasco, cruising to a 71-16 victory. Charlee Peterson was a force all afternoon, finishing with 14 points. Laura Thompson added 11 points. Eva Malone and Belle Hernandez each had 10 points.
After school today, both basketball teams host winner-to-state games in the Scarpelli Gym. The girls take on Richland at 5 p.m., and the boys play Chiawana at 7.
Sophomore Cason Bentley represented Gonzaga Prep at the GSL Swim Championships on Saturday in Cheney. He placed 1st in both the 100 breaststroke and the 200 yard Individual Medley. He will compete at the District Meet in Walla Walla this weekend.
The girls flag football team won both of its games against Mt. Spokane last week. In their first match-up, Maggie Lemberg had a pick-6 to seal the game: 35-28. In game two, the team won in a thriller: 7-0. They play Mead at Union Stadium this Thursday.
The boys basketball team had a great week, punching in two important GSL wins. On Tuesday, they defeated Cheney 58-36, with Dylynn Groves going off for 24 points, showcasing a clutch scoring ability all night. Ryan Carney flashed all-around excellence with 11 rebounds and six assists, and Jack Pierce chipped in a defensive disruption with four steals to anchor the effort. On Friday at Lewis & Clark, the team battled in a high-tempo league clash and came out on top 65-59 behind another big night from Dylynn who had 25 points.
The girls basketball team continued their dominant run last week with two decisive wins. Versus Cheney, they rolled to a 64-18 victory, paced by Quinn Pederson, who scored 14 points. Belle Hernandez had 2 blocks and Laura Thompson hauled in 10 rebounds to lift the Bullpups in a commanding team effort that saw the team jump out early and stay in control throughout. On Friday at LC, the ladies improved to 17-0 on the season with a 61-44 win. Aylah Cornwall led the way with 18 points, while Charlee Peterson contributed 14 more to help secure the road victory.
The wrestling team put on a dominant performance at home last Thursday, defeating Shadle Park 66-12 in GSL action. They had multiple pins from standout grapplers, including Nic Eaton (126), Jack Louie (132), Miles Pearson (150), Sam Kincaid (165), Luke Thompson (190), and Tyson Weichman (285) - all earning falls to create major momentum for the team. Then, they captured the 4A State Duals Championship with a 46-21 victory over Mead in Puyallup. Leading the charge were pins by Tiger Cabaluna, Austin Schield, strong decision wins by Ryder Owen, Jordan Schield, and Sam Kincaid, and a dominant 20-3 technical fall by Izzy Acosta. Congratulations! They compete this weekend at the District Meet, hosted at the Spokane Convention Center.
JANUARY 26
Over the weekend, the chess team placed second in the Eastern Washington Regional Chess Championships and qualified for State. Congratulations! Sebastian Campbell finished 3rd overall, only losing to the eventual champion in the final round. Jack Hamsher finished 4th. Alyssa Glastre and Preston Le scored multiple wins, and Jax Whipple and Shan Li each registered a win to contribute to the total team points.
The debate team also competed this weekend at the Southside Invitational, and they brought home lots of hardware. The Public Forum team of Grant Von Buchwaldt and Ari Everitt placed 1st in the event. Anthony DeGon was 1st in Impromptu Speaking and Grant was 4th. Connor Crinion finished 1st in Informative Speaking. For Editorial Commentary, Izzi Hydzik was 2nd and Parker Ebel was 4th. Esmund Weber took 4th overall in Extemporaneous Speaking. Max Brodigan and Parker secured spots in the Championship round in Student Congress. They compete next at University High School’s Foley tournament in February.
In cheer news, the team placed 3rd in their Game Day Small Division event at Moses Lake on Saturday, earning their first competition trophy in program history. They will travel to Battle Ground High School for the State meet the weekend of February 6–7.
The firls flag football team won both of its games against Central Valley last Thursday. They won 7-0 on the final possession of game one. Then, they dominated 23-6 behind several rushing touchdowns from Gianna Pence. The team hosts Mt. Spokane on Thursday, after school.
The wrestling team continued its dominant run last week, picking up two victories. They began with Mt. Spokane, where Brock Gustaveson, Will Jackson, and Tyson Weichman secured pins, fueling the win: 61-15. Then, against University, they rolled to a 57-13 victory behind strong performances across the lineup. Miro Parr-Coffin, Rocco Gannon, Ryder Owen, and Austin Schield all earned big wins to help build the team advantage. Next up, they take on Shadle Park at home on Thursday.
For boys basketball, it was a week of important league wins. Against Mt. Spokane, Jack Pierce led the way with 9 points in a defensive battle that ended 37-29. Jackson Mott hit key free throws down the stretch to lock in the win. Then, back home on Friday versus Central Valley, Dylynn Groves exploded for 24 points in a strong all-around performance to lift the boys to a 65-52 victory. Carter Nilson added 15 points in that one.
The girls basketball team went 2-0 this week, as well. In their opener at Mt. Spokane, they won 81-44! Quinn Pederson had 16 points, Belle Hernandez had 14, and Eva Malone had 12. Next, they beat CV 68-43. Aylah Cornwall had 24 points, and Laura Thompson scored 18 to help the girls pull away early in the contest.
Both basketball teams host Cheney tomorrow for Senior Night.
JANUARY 22
The cheer team took the mat this weekend in Pasco at Sageview High School for their 3rd competition. There, the team had an outstanding performance and qualified for the State Meet. Congratulations! They will compete again this weekend at Moses Lake before heading to the State Cheer competition at Battle Ground HS on February 6th-7th. This is a first in program history! The team is grateful to everyone for their support this year.
The girls basketball team stayed perfect with two wins last week. In Tuesday’s matchup versus Ridgeline, they came out hot from deep. Laura Thompson led the way with 22 points, including three 3-pointers. Quinn Pederson added 19 points with five 3-pointers, and Belle Hernandez chipped in 12 points, en route to their 74-43 victory. Then, against Shadle Park, Aylah Cornwall paced the Bullpups with 16 points to seal the game: 57-26.
On the boys side, it was another strong week in league play. Versus Ridgeline, Jack Pierce led the game with 16 points, Dylynn Groves added 14 points, and the team closed the game strong on defense to secure a 60-48 victory, holding Ridgeline to just five fourth-quarter points. Then, in their matchup with Shadle Park, they dominated from start to finish. Vince Moore posted a double-double with 18 points and 11 rebounds, and Ryan Carney scored 13 points, adding five rebounds and four steals to lead the Bullpups to a 70-40 win.
The wrestling team also maintained its momentum with a massive GSL win over CV, 70-6. Sam Kincaid, Harrison Crooks, and Brock Gustaveson each secured pins to lead the way on the mat. They host University on Thursday for senior night.
JANUARY 12
Over the weekend, swimmer Cason Bently placed 1st in the 200 Individual Medley and the 500 freestyle at the Blue Devil invite in Walla Walla. His next meet is on the 24th in Cheney.
The girls basketball team continued its undefeated run with two wins last week. Against Ferris, Aylah Cornwall sparked the offense with a big scoring night, knocking down 21 points en route to a 66-38 victory. Then, vs. University on Friday, Charlee Peterson poured in 19 points and hauled in 11 rebounds, showing her all-around impact. Laura Thompson added 15 points, while both Belle Hernandez and Aylah contributed 13 points each, giving the Bullpups four players in double figures.
For the boys, Veer Nagra had 10 points and Vince Moore scored 9 against Ferris. They both had 5 rebounds, to secure the 63-39 win. Versus University, Ryan Carney exploded for 27 points including seven 3-pointers, pacing the Bullpups in league play. Jack Pierce added 19 points, going 7-for-9 at the free-throw line, and Dylynn Groves chipped in 10 points and pulled in 10 rebounds to seal the win: 67-60. Both teams host Ridgeline tomorrow night.
The wrestling team began the week with a dominating win over Lewis and Clark, 69-12. Sam Kincaid, Brock Gustaveson, and Will Jackson all earned pins for the Bullpups. Then, they traveled to Kent for the Gut Check Invitational, where the team brought home the title against a loaded field of competitors. Austin Schield and Ryder Owen won their brackets, Brock and Miro Parr-Coffin finished 2nd, and Karver Peasley placed 3rd. They will look to keep momentum this week, with duals tonight at Ridgeline and at home on Wednesday versus Central Valley.
The debate team had an outstanding performance at the Conway Invitational at Gonzaga University this past weekend. Eight Bullpups earned awards: Marshall Loew, Paul Shinnick & Parker Ebel qualified for finals in Congress, with Parker earning the top Speaker Award. In Public Forum Debate, the team of Grant Von Buchwaldt and Ari Everitt reached the semifinals, and the team of Anthony DeGon and Antonio Trivino reached the finals, placing 2nd. Ari was 2nd in overall Speaker Points. In speech events: Grant was a finalist in Impromptu, Connor Crinion was 1st in Informative, Esmund Weber was 2nd in Extemporaneous, and Izzi Hydzik, as well as Parker, were finalists in Editorial Commentary. Next up for the Bullpups is the Southside Tournament at Ferris later this month.
JANUARY 5
Our DECA chapter participated in its first-ever Area 11 Competition against schools throughout Eastern Washington at Spokane Falls Community College. Chloe Bruya and Claire Gee earned 1st place in Sports and Entertainment Marketing Team Decision Making. Bridget Karobia took 2nd place in Hospitality and Tourism Professional Selling. Andrew Krustangel was 4th place in the Human Resources Management Series. 9 other members earned Washington State Career Development Conference qualification bids with their performances: Bella Buckner, Ian Keliderer, Ted Soucy, Kennadie Franklin, Lowen Kahn, and duo teams of Tessa Yost and Kelton Doolittle, as well as Sammy Matthews and Brogan Olson. Congratulations! They will compete next in Bellevue this February.
Our wrestling team had an outstanding showing at two major tournaments. On December 19 and 20, they competed in the Tri-State Invitational at North Idaho College, finishing 4th overall among 55 teams. Individual placers included Will Jackson and Jordan Schield taking 6th, Rocky Little finishing 4th, Ryder Owen and Brock Gustaveson earning 3rd, Karver Peasley placing 2nd, and first-place finishes from Miro Parr-Coffin and Izzy Acosta. This weekend, the team traveled to Nampa to compete in the Rollie Lane Invitational, where they delivered an incredible team performance, taking 1st place overall among 93 teams from Idaho, Oregon, Washington, Utah, Montana, and California. Individual highlights from that tournament included Izzy placing 6th, Brock and Austin Schield finishing 4th, Ryder earning 2nd, and championship titles from Miro and Karver. They take on LC on Wednesday.
The Bowlpups had a competition this weekend as well. Brayden Hoover bowled a personal best 150, and Parker Ebel had an 847 series.
Over break, the girls basketball team traveled to Palm Desert, CA for the Prep Classic and went 3-0. They opened up with a game against Bellarmine Prep, where Laura Thompson had 20 points. Then, against Xavier Prep, Quinn Peterson had 12 points and Charlee Peterson had 11. In their final game against Seattle Prep, Aylah Cornwall led all scorers with 25 points.
The boys basketball team traveled to Phoenix, AZ this weekend for the Hoophall Classic. Their first game was against DeMatha Catholic, and Jack Pierce had 12 points. Then, they played Bishop Gorman on Friday and Dylynn Groves led with 13 points. On Saturday, they wrapped up with a game against TMI Episcopal and Ryan Carney had 13 points.
Both basketball teams will host Ferris on Tuesday evening.
DECEMBER 15
Our Knowledge Bowl teams have been competing in the Inland Empire League and just wrapped up their 3rd meet at Lewis & Clark. Our Varsity team— Mason Hatzke, Mary Cornwell, Kam Pitts, Nolan Lemberg, Declan Donahue, and Stefen Schlegel—is currently in 4th place out of 26 teams in the Inland Northwest. Our JV team of Luke Loroz, Aidan Roark, Lucas McNallen, and Ciaran Kelly is in 2nd place! Next up is a meet at East Valley in January.
The Debate team spent the weekend at Shadle Park High School for its annual Highlander Invitational. In Student Congress, Parker Ebel finished 3rd. Grant Von Buchwaldt and Antonio Trivino were undefeated in Public Forum prelim rounds. Grant also placed 1st in overall speaker points in the event and 1st in Impromptu Speaking. The team will compete at Gonzaga University next month.
Our cheer team competed for the first time on Saturday at Mead High School. They placed second in the small game day 4A division and were just points away from qualifying for the state competition in February. Their next competition is at Hanford High School in January.

The team hosts Ferris on Wednesday.

Against Central Valley, the team won 68-48. Aylah Cornwall had 31 points and 14 rebounds. Charlee Peterson played lockdown defense all night, adding 10 points and 3 assists. Then, on Friday against Clarkston, the girls picked up another win, 59-48. Quinn Peterson had 15 points in that one.
For boys basketball, their week began with a win over University by a score of 69-52. Carter Nilson had 19 points, Ryan Carney had 16, and Jack Pierce had 14. In their game against CV, Jackson Mott led the night with 18 points and 7 rebounds.
DECEMBER 8
Last week, girls basketball won an overtime thriller, 78-73 over Ridgeline. Laura Thompson led the night in scoring with 19 points on 8-of-10 shooting. Aylah Cornwall had a double-double with 18 points and 11 rebounds, and Charlee Peterson added 14 points, plus 3 steals.
The boys beat the Falcons 74-42. Ryan Carney had 21 points, Carter Nilson had 18, and Jack Pierce had 13. Then, over the weekend, the boys played in the East vs. West Preseason Shootout. Their first game was against Camas on Friday, where they secured a big win, by a score of 70-59. Jackson Mott led the way with 16 points and 13 rebounds. Vince Moore added 11 points and 8 rebounds. In their second matchup, the team beat Bellarmine Prep 48-41. Vince had 12 points in that game, and Ryan had 11.
The wrestling team traveled to American Falls, ID for a team dual, where they went 6-3. Rocco Gannon and Ryder Owen were unbeaten on the weekend. They travel to Butte, MT for the Mining City tournament this weekend.
The Bowl Pups finished the first half of their season with some strong games. New personal bests were set by freshmen Nathan Knutson with a 163, Aiden Roark at 159, and Johnathan Nardini at 133. Junior Julianna Miner rolled a 192 and had a 4-game average of 170 pins. Tiernan Waggoner and Paul Davidow both rolled solid 200 games. Seniors were led by Cody Hough with a 225 and a 223. Cody finished the day with a 187 average.
In debate news, the team competed in the Feline Frenzy Tournament at Mt. Spokane. In Congressional Debate, Parker Ebel finished 4th. In Public Forum debate, two teams made it to the semifinal round: Anthony DeGon and Antonio Trivino, as well as Grant Von Buchwaldt, Ari Everitt, and Graham Carnagey. Anthony was 1st in overall Speaker Points on the weekend and Ari was 5th.
At the Brooks West XC Championships over the weekend in Walnut, CA, Bullpup runners Miro Parr-Coffin finished 29th (16:04.2) and Zach Frazier placed 33rd(16:09.2) in the championship division. In the girls' championship division, Erin McMahon placed 42nd (19:34.3), and Claire Gee finished 52nd (19:57.1). Way to represent, Pups!
Finally, at the Vegas Tuffest Jr. World Rodeo Championships this weekend, Savannah Holbert placed 3rd in the Barrels, in her Go Round Group on Sunday, with a time of 13.98. Congratulations to her on an incredible season.
NOVEMBER 17
Last Thursday, Bullpup volleyball team swept Kamiakin to secure the District 6 Championship. Rowan Greenfield had two aces and 14 kills, Mara Sandberg had three aces and nine kills, and Noella Migliuri had 29 assists., Sophia Schwab and Cienna Pierpoint added nine digs each, and Cam Holbert had six digs. They begin their State title march in the Yakima SunDome on Friday against Mt. Rainer.
On Saturday, the undefeated Pups football team shut out Curtis 42-0 in their WIAA State Round of 16 matchup. Jonah Keller had three rushing touchdowns and 148 yards. Jimmy Grainger added another score, tallying up 130 yards on the ground. Sam Kincaid threw a touchdown to wideout Isaiah Docken and ran for another, totaling 136 yards on the afternoon. Paul Davidow was a perfect 6 for 6 on point-after attempts. The defense stood out—picking up three turnovers and holding the Vikings to just 14 first downs. Andrew Yarno had an interception and Will Jackson forced a fumble. The team continues its State run at home this Saturday, versus Graham Kapowsin.
NOVEMBER 10Last Thursday, the football team cruised to a 68-20 victory over Sunnyside in the 4A Round of 32. Quarterback Sam Kincaid was sharp—completing 8 of 10 passes for 185 yards and SIX touchdowns, while also rushing for 86 yards and a score. Tailback Jimmy Grainger did the heavy lifting on the ground with 97 yards and two touchdowns on just eight carries. Receiver Isaiah Docken made every catch count, hauling in three catches and three touchdowns, and Jonah Keller added 102 yards on just two receptions and scored twice himself. Nikko Alexander and Dylan Croall added receiving scores as well. On defense, senior Jack Pierce led the way with five tackles and an interception. The team hosts Curtis on Saturday at 1 p.m.
On Saturday, volleyball earned an automatic bid to the State Tournament with its victory over Mead, 3-1. Mara Sandberg had 16 kills and 13 digs, Sophia Schwab had 8 kills and 12 digs, Noella Migliuri had 11 digs and 35 assists, and Cam Holbert had 14 digs. The team plays at Kamiakin on Thursday for the District 6 championship.
Over the weekend, the boys and girls cross country teams had fantastic showings at the State meet. The girls came in 8th overall. Erin McMahon crossed the finish line 7th and Claire Gee was 19th. The boys—making their first state appearance since 1997—claimed 2nd place as a team and were powered by freshman Miro Parr-Coffin, who finished 5th, and senior Zach Frazier, who was 7th. A huge congratulations to both teams and their coaches, as well as supporters, for an amazing season!
NOVEMBER 3
Last Tuesday, Bullpup volleyball team got things rolling with a win over University on senior night, in 3 straight sets. The win locked up the program’s first GSL championship in thirty years. Rowan Greenfield had 6 aces and 5 kills. Mara Sandberg also had 6 aces, with 17 kills and 14 digs. Cienna Pierpoint added 15 digs. But the night was carried by the seniors: Noella Migliuri had 27 assists, Sophia Schwab had 17 attacks, and Karolina Flanagan led the team in blocks.
On Thursday, the football team capped off another undefeated regular season with a 49-7 win over University. Quarterback Sam Kincaid threw for 161 yards and two touchdowns—first to Jacobe McClelland and later to Isaiah Docken. The running back room displayed its depth with scores from four different Bullpups: Nikko Alexander, Andy Agada, Jonah Keller, and Issac Ohman. On defense, the Titans were limited to 111 yards of total offense and just eight first downs, behind great plays from Aiden James, Wren Jackson, and Jack Pierce. Andrew Yarno also had a pick six. The team earned a No. 3 seed in the initial 4A State rankings and will host Sunnyside on Friday.
On Saturday, the girls soccer team kept their postseason alive with a 2-1 win over Kamiakin in overtime. Laura Thompson scored the equalizer in the second half, but it was Kaiya Weiler who had the winning goal in the 88th minute to secure the win. They travel to Richland tomorrow.
The robotics team had their first competition of the year at St. Georges. They placed 5th overall and had the highest single-match point total on the weekend. Up next, the team will host schools across the region in the Barbieri Student Center on November 22.
In girls swimming news, freshman Brielle Schmidt PR’d in the 200 IM at the District Meet on Saturday - finishing 3rd overall. She also swam in the 100 Butterfly, coming in 9th.
The boys and girls cross country teams made some noise at the District championships at Wandermere on Saturday, with both teams qualifying for the State Championship Race at Sun Willows Golf Course in Pasco next weekend. This is the first team appearance at State for the boys since 1997.
The girls finished 3rd overall, paced by Erin McMahon and Claire Gee who did their thing, coming in second and sixth respectively. But it was Lucy Ladum and Makena Krauss who picked up crucial team points with superb, top-20 finishes over key opponents that secured the State bid.
The boys finished 2nd overall, thanks to dominating runs from Miro Parr-Coffin and Zach Frazier, who took the first two spots in the field. The team was propelled further with big runs from Marshall Loew - who came in 13th - and Noah Martinet in 20th.
OCTOBER 27
Last Friday, Bullpup football secured the GSL title with a 31-23 win over Mead on senior night. In the first quarter, Andrew Yarno recovered a fumble and took it to the end zone for a score. Jack Pierce had an interception, and quarterback Sam Kincaid connected with Isaiah Docken for his first of two receiving touchdowns on the night. Jacobe McClelland had an interception before Paul Davidow’s 32-yard field goal, which put the Bullpups up 17-10 at half. In the third quarter, Nikko Alexander took a reverse for a 42-yard touchdown, and Yarno sealed the game after an interception with 2 minutes left on the clock. Their last game of the regular season is at University on Thursday.
At their last GSL meet of the season in Cheney, the girls team placed first overall. Erin McMahon and Claire Gee finished 1st and 2nd, respectively. Bella Buckner, Lucia Ladum, and Makena Krauss rounded out the race with top-10 finishes. For the boys, who took 2nd, Miro Parr-Coffin led the way with a 5:41 pace. Zach Frazier, Noah Martinet, and Marshall Loew were just behind with top-8 finishes on the day. Both teams will compete at the District 6 Championships this weekend, at Wandermere Golf Course.
The debate team got its season started this weekend at Coeur d’Alene High School, where 27 Bullpups competed in their first tournament, the Rookie Rumble. Congrats to the first-place winners in Public Forum, Kellen Cronin & Jackson Ridnour. Lincoln Douglas competitor Ezra Longmire placed 2nd. Lucas McNallen earned top 5 speaker honors in LD, and Darin O'Connor earned top speaker award in PF. The next tournament is November 7-8 at Lake City.
The girls soccer team began its playoff push on Saturday with a 2-0 win against Pasco on Saturday. Jolina Olson scored the first goal within a minute of the opening kickoff. Laura Thompson scored the second. The team plays next at Chiawana tomorrow.
In hockey news, Mickayla O’Hara and Ailey George won their tournament over the weekend. Mickayla had two goals and an assist in the championship, and Ailey played tough defensively in addition to providing a key assist.
Volleyball played Mead on Thursday and swept in 3 straight sets. Noella Migliuri had 2 aces, 7 kills, 25 assists, and 17 digs. Cienna Pierpoint had 23 digs, Mara Sandberg had 17 kills, Karolina Flanagan and Jayna Humbert had 2 blocks. They host University tomorrow for senior night.
OCTOBER 20
The cross country teams had their 3rd GSL meet last week, against Shadle Park and University high schools. The boys won their race, with three Bullpups finishing in the top 4: Zach Frazier, Nathaniel Kayner, and Marshall Loew. Noah Martinet came in 8th. The girls also won their race, dominating the field with six runners in the top 10: Erin McMahon, Claire Gee, Bella Buckner, Lucy Ladum, Makena Krauss, and Eva Kelly. They have their fourth and final GSL meet tomorrow afternoon in Cheney.
The football team beat Central Valley 49-7 on Friday. Jimmy Grainger got the game rolling with a 63-yard score on the first possession. Jonah Keller added 4 rushing touchdowns on 6 carries, for 150 yards. Dylan Croall and Jacobe McClelland added receiving touchdowns. The Bullpup defense held the Bears to just 156 yards total offense. Nehemiah Areta, Ross Parker, and Will Jackson all had interceptions on the night. They play Mead at home this week.
The volleyball team played two matches last Tuesday at Ridgeline. Against Mt. Spokane, the team won 3-1. Mara Sandberg had 4 aces, 16 kills, and 10 digs. Sophia Schwab had 4 aces and 8 digs. Cienna Pierpoint had 3 aces and 10 digs. And Noella Migliuri had 3 aces, 32 assists, and 21 digs. Later that night, the team won in 3 straight sets. Rowan Greenfield had 2 aces and 9 kills. Karolina Flanagan added 7 kills. On Thursday, the team beat CV 3-0. Gracie Chillimidos and Parker Davis each had 4 aces. They host Freeman tomorrow.
The girls soccer team played Cheney on Wednesday. Emilia Fowler scored the lone Bullpup goal on an assist from Sophia Thorn. They take on Central Valley this Wednesday at home for their senior night.
The Bowl Pups had their first match of the season and got off to a great start. There were a number of personal records on the day: Peyton Hoover rolled a 192, Reese Lempka had her first 200 game with a 204, and Julieanna Miner set a new school record for the girls team with a 262. Newcomer Paul Davidow rolled a 189, Cody Hough had a 222, and Parker Ebel had 10 strikes in a row, finishing with the third highest boys’ score of all-time with a 288.
The slowpitch team wrapped up their season against Mead. 4 Bullpups hit .500 or better on the night: Kate van Loben Sels, Nenah Ainsworth, Averie Dotson, and Anna Brodigan. Congratulations on a great season to all of the players on that team - especially seniors Nenah, Kate, Taryn Barbieri, Alese Spakousky, and Isabel Webb.

Last week, Bullpup volleyball returned to form with two decisive victories over league opponents. En route to their 3-1 win over Ridgeline, Noella Migliuri had 36 assists and 16 digs. Mara Sandberg had 14 kills and 12 digs. And Ciena Pierpoint served an 8-point swing to lock up the final set — she finished with 3 aces and 20 digs. Versus Shadle Park, the team won in 3 straight sets. Rowan Greenfield and Jayna Humbert had 7 kills and 3 blocks each. And Ruthie Grangier added 6 kills. They play at Ridgeline tomorrow night.
The slowpitch team had a big week with three games. Versus Mead on Tuesday, Abrihet Epps and Anna Brodigan picked up hits. Against Cheney, Nena Ainsworth and Kate van Loben Sels had two hits, and Gracie Rhyne had an RBI. On Saturday, Taryn Barbieri was 2-for-3 with two RBIs, and Alese Spakousky was 1-for-1 with an RBI. They play Ferris or Mead on Wednesday.

The cross country teams ran at the Nike Hole in the Wall Meet in Lakewood. Both teams finished 14th overall in the Elite Division. They have a third GSL meet this Wednesday at Ridgeline.
The football team beat Shadle Park 63-0 on Thursday. Quarterback Sam Kincaid threw four touchdown passes in the first half. Isaiah Docken hauled in two of those, and Jack Pierce added a 27-yard interception return. The defense also held Shadle Park to just five first downs and a total of 100 yards of offense. Jimmy Granger scored the initial rushing touchdown, and Dylan Kroll and Nikko Alexander added touchdown receptions. Andy Agada, Jacob Nguyen, and Max Ramierez scored touchdowns late in the game. They host Central Valley this Friday.Over the weekend, Savannah Holbert wrapped up the Fall Rodeo season in Colfax by finishing first in the Barrels, securing her first-place rank in the state for that event. The girls slowpitch team played Rogers and Shadle Park. Against the Pirates, Anna Brodigan was 2-for-4 from the plate, with 3 RBIs and pitched a complete game from the mound, striking out two. It was a strong performance for the Bullpups, with 6 different hitters picking up RBIs and the team scoring 8 runs in the 3rd inning. Versus the Highlanders, Sophia Gum was 2-for-2, Kate van Loben Sels smashed a double, and Emma Laughlin had 2 RBIs. The team plays at Ferris today and hosts Mead for senior night tomorrow.
Bullpup football continued to roll, beating Lewis & Clark 47-6 on Friday. Jonah Keller opened the game up with a 72 yard rushing touchdown and took a 97 yard kickoff return to the house in the third quarter. Quarterback Andrew Yarno connected with wide receiver Isaiah Docken for a 12-yard touchdown in the fourth and rushed for two more scores of his own, for 139 total yards on the night. On defense, Nehemiah Areta had a sack and Spencer Paulson picked up a fumble, then ran it to the end zone for a touchdown. They take on Shadle this Thursday at ONE Spokane Stadium.
The cross country teams ran two races last week. In their home GSL matchup, the boys were led by Zach Frazier and Miro Parr-Coffin, who finished 1st and 2nd, respectively. Marshall Loew was 9th. For the girls, Erin McMahon, Claire Gee, and Bella Buckner finished in the top-10. At the Battle for the 509 Invitational, the boys team finished 4th in a field of 24 teams and the girls were 2nd overall. Both teams will travel to Lakewood (WA) for the Nike Hole in the Wall meet this weekend.

In a back-and-forth 5-set loss vs. LC, Karolina Flanagan had 23 digs and 2 aces. Mara Sandberg had 17 digs, 8 kills, and 3 aces. And Rowan Greenfield added 16 digs. They host Ridgeline tomorrow.
Finally, girls soccer tied Mt. Spokane 1-1. Kyla Welsh scored a header on a cross from Sophia Thorn. Goalkeeper Amelia Pielli had 7 critical saves on the night. The team hosts Ferris tonight at 6:30.

On Friday, the football continued their winning ways, beating Cheney 31-14. Jimmy Grainger rushed for 74 yards and 3 touchdowns. Sam Kincaid connected with Isaiah Docken for another score, late in the second. The Bullpup defense held Cheney to less than 200 yards on the night. They host Lewis and Clark this week. The theme is All American Cookout — come enjoy free hot dogs in the student section before the game in your red, white, and blue, stars and stripes, aprons, denim, or flannel clothing.
Slowpitch had 3 games last week. Vs. Central Valley, Nenah Ainsworth was 3-for-3, and Sarah Wessman was 2-for-2. Against Deer Park, Taryn Barbieri, Berkeley Lopez, and Anna Brodigan each picked up 2 hits. In the Mt. Spokane match-up, Alese Spakousky and Isabel Webb picked up RBIs. They play at Lewis & Clark today.
Over the weekend, Bullpup volleyball won the gold bracket of Spokane's Sheridan-Welch Classic, a 64-team tournament with teams from Washington, Idaho, and Alaska. The Pups didn't drop a single set in the tournament and knocked off defending champ Wenatchee in consective sets to bring home the title. Last Tuesday, the team beat Cheney in 3 straight sets. Mara Sandberg had 17 kills, 6 aces, and 8 digs. Chloe Bruya and Jayna Humbert both had 5 kills in the match. Parker Davis added another ace and 9 digs. They play at Ferris Tuesday (the theme is Nike night) and at Lewis & Clark on Thursday (Wear your Adam Sandler clothing for that one.).
Last week, both cross country teams ran against Central Valley and Mead. For the boys, Miro Parr-Coffin finished the race in first, with Zach Frazier just behind in second and Marshall Loew in 8th. The girls had a great team race, controlling the pack and securing places 4 through 7 on the day by Erin McMahon, Claire Gee, Bella Buckner, and Lucy Ladum. Makena Krauss was ninth. The teams host Mt. Spokane, Lewis & Clark, and University on Wednesday at Liberty Lake County Park for their senior night. Bullpup Cup points will be awarded to the classes with the most attendance there, so please show up in your Blue and White!
Savannah Holbert had a huge weekend at the Yelm Rodeo — winning the barrels on both days and taking 4th in team roping on Sunday. She will look to retain her #1 ranking at the final rodeo of the fall season next weekend in Colfax.
Girls soccer beat Shadle Park 8-0 last Wednesday. Alex Guinn scored the opening goal on a penalty kick. Sophia Thorn netted one from the corner and added another goal late in the 1st half. Laura Thompson had 2 goals on the night, and Jolina Olson scored as well. They host Ferris tonight.

Last Tuesday, the girls soccer team beat Cheney 3-1. Madelyn Balmforth netted the opening goal. Then, Emelia Fowler and Anna Green scored the next two to secure the win. They host Rideline tonight.
Volleyball team picked up two huge wins last week. Against Lewis and Clark, the team won in 3 straight sets. Noella Migliuri had a stellar night with 3 aces, 22 assists, and 12 digs. Rowan Greenfield had 8 kills. On Thursday, the team beat Mt. Spokane 3-1 on the road. Mara Sandberg had 24 kills and Noella added 32 assists. They play at Central Valley tomorrow.
The slowpitch team secured their first win against North Central 22-12 on Tuesday. Alese Spakousky was 3-4 with 3 singles and 2 RBIs. Emma Laughlin hit 3-5 with a double and 6 RBIs. Sophia Gum picked up the win, allowing only 2 earned runs in 5 innings on the mound. They host Central Valley after school today.
Bullpup football put on a clinic last Friday against Mt. Spokane, beating the Wildcats 48-20. Jimmy Grainger totaled 64 yards rushing and had 2 touchdowns on just 5 attempts. Sam Kincaid completed 9 of 10 throws, with 4 touchdowns. Isaiah Docken caught 5 of those passes for 104 yards and 2 touchdowns. Jonah Keller and Nikko Alexander caught the other two receiving scores. Jack Pierce continued to impress on special teams, returning 4 punts for 127 yards and Jacobe McClelland had an interception. They play at Cheney on Friday.
Savannah Holbert, who led the football team out on her horse Ice Man for the Prep Pride game, competed at the Othello Rodeo this weekend where she placed 2nd in the barrels. She will travel to Yelm on Saturday.
Also competing this weekend was the girls cross country team, who ran at the Mountain West Classic in Missoula, MT. The team placed 7th in a field of 92 schools. Erin McMahon, Claire Gee, and Bella Buckner carried the Lady Bullpups. The JV team also finished 7th overall, with Paloma Parr-Coffin leading the way.
The boys team ran in the elite division of the Tillamook Invitational in Oregon, finishing 6th overall. Among all runners, Miro Parr-Coffin crossed the finish line 2nd and Zach Frazier came in 4th. Both teams take on Mead and Central Valley this Wednesday.
SEPT. 15
Last week, the girls soccer team got their season started with matches against Ridgeline, Lake City, and West Valley. They have their first home game Tuesday vs. Cheney.
Slowpitch also began their season. Against Ferris, Emma Laughlin went 4-4 with 2 RBIs. Nina Ainsworth added a 3-run home run in the 1st inning. They play North Central at home on Tuesday.
The football team shut out Ferris 51-0 on Friday night at One Spokane Stadium. Quarterback Sam Kincaid connected with Jacobe McClelland, Isaiah Docken, and Jonah Keller for touchdowns on offense. Andrew Yarno had an interception on defense and ran it back for a score in the 4th quarter. The Pups host Mt. Spokane on Friday night in our Prep Pride game. The theme is Blue and White.
The girls volleyball team had a huge week, picking up wins against all five of their opponents. At the Sundome tournament this weekend, they went 3-0, dropping just one set. Over two games, Mara Sandberg had 31 kills, Cienna Pierpoint picked up 29 digs, Rowan Greenfield served 6 aces, and Sophia Schwab had 4 blocks. They play at home Tuesday vs. Lewis and Clark. The theme is white out.
The cross country teams ran at the Highlander Invitational this weekend. In the freshman race, Miro Parr-Coffin placed 1st. In the senior race, Zach Frazier finished 1st and Nate Kanyer was 10th. For the girls team, Hattie Condon, Kora Lengerich, Gwyn McCarter, and Gabby Gamon led the way for the Bullpups in their respective races. Both teams will compete at the Mountain West Classic in Montana this weekend.
At the Longview Rodeo this weekend, Savannah Holbert won the barrels and finished second overall on Sunday. She is currently the #1 ranked barrel racer in the state and will look to continue her strong start in Othello this weekend.
SEPT. 8
On Friday, the football team opened up the fall season with a dominating win over Ridgeline, 38-10. Quarterback Sam Kincaid threw for 4 touchdowns and 209 yards. Jonah Keller caught 3 of those touchdown passes and totaled 188 yards rushing and receiving. Nikko Alexander added his own score and Jack Pierce returned a 65 yard, pick-6 in the 2nd quarter. The team plays Ferris at One Spokane Stadium this Friday.
Over the weekend, the girls cross country team came out of the gate with blazing speeds - capturing a 2nd place team finish at Farragut State Park. Erin McMahon and Claire Gee led the way for the lady Bullpups with mile-averages of 6:25. The JV girls team placed first overall.
At Farragut, the boys team placed 3rd, with Zach Frazier finishing 2nd and Miro Parr-Coffin taking 3rd. Both cross country teams will compete at Shadle Park’s Highlander Invitational this Saturday.
Earlier this month, Savannah Holbert finished second out of 49 entries in the barrels at the Ritzville Rodeo. She competes next in Longview, WA, this weekend.
Hockey player Mickayla O’Hara was also recognized for her outstanding performances on the ice recently with an honorable mention at the AAA Dawg Daze of Summer Tournament in Connecticut.
