Description
The School Nurse serves as a compassionate caregiver and essential member of the school community, attending to the health and well-being of each student with attentiveness and respect for the whole person. In this role, they provide medical care to high school-age students, responding to daily needs that range from coordinating student health plans to emergency services when necessary. In partnership with school leadership, the nurse will help with the health and safety strategy and management of the ever-changing health needs of the student population.
Job Status: Part Time (0.5 FTE), 10 Month Position

KEY COMPETENCIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Clinical Care, Counseling & Emergency Response
Deliver on-site nursing services to address daily student health needs
Administer first aid and CPR
Respond to medical emergencies and determine when escalation of care is necessary
Provide health assessments for student concerns
Offer guidance, counseling, and intervention related to student health needs
Facilitate referrals to appropriate medical or community resources when needed
Student Health Management & Care Coordination
Manage medication administration processes, including staff training, delegation, and ongoing supervision in accordance with state guidelines
Coordinate referrals and communication between families, healthcare providers, and school personnel
Monitor and support students with chronic or complex health conditions
Promote continuity of care to support student well-being and access to learning
Health Plans, Attendance & Student Support
Contribute to the development and implementation of Individual Health Plans (IHPs) and Emergency Health Plans (EHPs)
Monitor plans to ensure appropriate accommodations and safe participation in school activities
Identify and address health-related barriers to student attendance
Collaborate with school staff and families to support consistent student engagement
Staff Training, Education & Consultation
Lead staff training in areas including bleeding control, seizure disorders, bloodborne pathogens (BBP), anaphylaxis, AED use, and asthma care
Train designated staff in accordance with RCWs and the Washington State School Staff Health Training Guide
Partner with faculty and staff to address the educational impact of student health conditions, including chronic illness, attendance concerns, and life-threatening conditions
Serve as a health resource to support student success in the classroom
Support student health education and provide consultation on health-related curriculum
Health Compliance, Safety & Public Health
Coordinate with the Spokane Regional Health District (SRHD) on infectious disease management and reporting
Ensure compliance with state and local health regulations, including immunization requirements
Promote a safe school environment through proactive health and safety practices
Support development and implementation of policies that reduce health-related risk and liability
Assist in preparedness planning for health-related emergencies
Health Records & Data Management
Oversee and maintain accurate electronic health records, including systems such as FinalForms
Manage annual health updates and review medical documentation for completeness and accuracy
Ensure confidentiality and proper handling of all student health information

Requirements
Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in Washington State (or eligible through the Nurse Licensure Compact)
Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited program
Eligibility for, or possession of, a Washington State Educational Staff Associate (ESA) Certificate – School Nurse (or willingness to obtain within a specified timeframe)
Completion of required background check and fingerprinting in accordance with Washington State law
Current CPR and First Aid certification
Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited program
Eligibility for, or possession of, a Washington State Educational Staff Associate (ESA) Certificate – School Nurse (or willingness to obtain within a specified timeframe)
Completion of required background check and fingerprinting in accordance with Washington State law
