POSITION SUMMARY:
The Custodian is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and well-ordered environment throughout the school campus. This position supports the daily operation of Gonzaga Preparatory School facilities by performing a variety of cleaning, maintenance, and light repair tasks. The Custodian ensures that classrooms, restrooms, common areas, and exterior spaces are clean, safe, and conducive to a positive learning environment for students, staff, and visitors.
This is a part-time hourly position aligned with the school’s 10-month academic calendar. Evening and weekend availability is necessary.

Requirements
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
- Perform daily cleaning and sanitizing of classrooms, restrooms, offices, hallways, cafeteria, gymnasium, and other school spaces to promote health and safety.
- Set up, support, and clean up after school events, liturgies, and activities that foster community life.
- Maintain outdoor areas, ensuring that walkways, parking lots, and entryways are free from hazards and presentable for all who visit campus.
- Safely operate custodial tools, cleaning equipment, and materials according to training and safety guidelines.
- Identify and report maintenance or safety concerns promptly to the Plant Manager.
- Support sustainability efforts through recycling and responsible use of resources.
- Collaborate respectfully with faculty, staff, students, and visitors, modeling Gonzaga Prep’s values of care for our common home and service to others.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Prior custodial or maintenance experience preferred, particularly in a school, institutional, or commercial setting.
- Knowledge of cleaning methods, materials, and equipment.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and work independently or as part of a team.
- Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs., stand for extended periods, and perform repetitive motions.
- Demonstrated reliability, integrity, and attention to detail.
Physical requirements:
Duties involve regular standing, walking, bending, lifting, reaching, and carrying materials or equipment. Custodians must be able to lift and move objects weighing up to 50 pounds, operate cleaning and maintenance equipment safely, and perform repetitive motions such as sweeping and mopping for extended periods. The role may require working from ladders or lifts to clean or change fixtures, and occasional outdoor work in varying weather conditions.
