POSITION SUMMARY
The Food Service Manager oversees the daily operations of the school's food service program, ensuring the provision of nutritious and cost-effective meals to students and staff. This role involves menu planning, food preparation, staff supervision, inventory management, and compliance with health and safety regulations. The position reports to the Principal.

.8 FTE, hourly position. Monday through Friday when school is open. Variable hours, typically 6:30am - 1:30pm. 10 month, school year schedule. May include some weekends and evenings for special events.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

Menu Planning and Food Preparation
● Develop and implement diverse, balanced menus that adhere to nutritional guidelines and accommodate dietary restrictions.
● Supervise and participate in the preparation and cooking of meals, ensuring quality and portion control.
● Cater employee meetings, specific events, and other requested meals as needed for school operations. May include some weekends and evenings.

Procurement and Inventory Management
● Order food and supplies from approved vendors, maintaining accurate records of purchases.
● Receive and inspect deliveries, ensuring products meet quality standards and are stored properly.
● Conduct regular inventory checks to monitor stock levels and minimize waste.

Financial Management
● Authorize payment of invoices and coordinate with the Treasurer's Office for timely processing.
● Monitor and manage the cafeteria budget, aiming for cost-effectiveness without compromising quality.
● Review monthly financial reports for accuracy and address any discrepancies promptly.

Staff Supervision and Training
● Recruit, train, and supervise cafeteria staff, fostering a collaborative and efficient work environment.
● Develop work schedules and assign duties to ensure smooth daily operations.
● Conduct annual performance evaluations.

Compliance and Safety
● Ensure all food service operations comply with federal, state, and local health and safety regulations.
● Maintain cleanliness and organization of the kitchen and dining areas, implementing proper sanitation practices.
● Stay current with health codes and implement necessary changes to maintain compliance.

Equipment and Facility Management
● Oversee the maintenance and operation of kitchen equipment, coordinating repairs as needed.
● Restock and troubleshoot vending machines, ensuring they are operational and stocked with appropriate items.
● Implement energy conservation practices while maintaining a safe working environment.

Record-Keeping and Reporting
● Maintain accurate records of meals served, inventory, and financial transactions.
● Prepare and submit required reports to the Treasurer's Office and other relevant departments.
● Verify deposit receipts and financial documents for accuracy.

Requirements
Qualifications
● High school diploma or equivalent required; associate's or bachelor's degree in food service management, nutrition, or a related field preferred.
● Minimum of 2–3 years of experience in food service operations, with at least 1 year in a supervisory role.
● Knowledge of food safety regulations and best practices; Certified Food Protection Manager certificate as required by the Washington State Department of Health.
● Strong organizational and leadership skills, with the ability to manage a team effectively.
● Proficiency in inventory management and budgeting.
● Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
● Ability to operate standard kitchen equipment and familiarity with point-of-sale systems.

Physical requirements
● Ability to stand for extended periods and perform tasks that involve bending, lifting (up to 50 pounds), and reaching.
● Comfortable working in varying temperatures, including kitchen heat and walk-in freezer cold.
● Manual dexterity to handle kitchen equipment safely.
Salary
Salary Range: $20.21 - $24.59
