POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Director of Campus Security ensures the safety and security of Gonzaga Preparatory School’s students, staff, visitors, and property across all school facilities and events. This position provides strategic leadership for campus safety, emergency preparedness, and daily operational oversight, while fostering a secure and welcoming environment consistent with the school’s Catholic, Jesuit mission. This position reports directly to the Principal and has supervisory responsibilities of the security department and its staff.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
Strategic and Administrative Leadership
Develop, implement, and regularly update a comprehensive safety and security plan covering all Gonzaga Prep properties, including residences and auxiliary sites.
Supervise the Security Department, including the Campus Response Specialist and any contracted personnel.
Coordinate with School Administration regarding budgets, purchasing, and grant opportunities related to safety and security.
Coordinate with law enforcement, emergency services, and diocesan safety committees.
Represent the school’s security operations at administrative meetings and regional safety partnerships.
Campus and Off-Campus Operations
Maintain and monitor surveillance, access control, alarms, and emergency communication systems across all Gonzaga Prep facilities.
Oversee security and emergency readiness for school-owned properties.
Conduct periodic inspections of off-campus residences to ensure safety standards, lighting, and access systems are functioning properly.
Track and coordinate staff and student parking assignments.
Coordinate with the Plant Manager and IT Department to address safety or security-related maintenance and technology needs.
Manage security coverage for large campus and community events, including athletic contests, graduation, and Prep Pride.
Serve as the primary contact for urgent or emergent security issues, including those occurring on evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Emergency Response and Preparedness
Coordinate the school’s emergency response planning, drills, and after-action evaluations with school administrators.
Serve as a key member of the Crisis Response Team and act as liaison to first responders.
Maintain and update the school’s Crisis Manual and related policies, in collaboration with school administrators.
Training and Community Engagement
Provide annual security and safety training for faculty, staff, and students.
Foster a culture of vigilance and care through positive engagement with students, families, and staff.
Offer guidance in de-escalation, conflict management, and incident response.
Collaborate with other Spokane-area schools and diocesan partners to advance best practices in school safety.
Qualifications
Minimum of 5 years’ experience in law enforcement, school safety, or security management.
Experience in an educational environment preferred.
Completion of state-recommended school safety training within the first year of employment.
Ability to obtain CPR and First Aid certification within 30 days of hire.
Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
Proven ability to manage confidential information and sensitive situations with professionalism.
Competent with standard computer applications (Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and security software).
Demonstrated commitment to Gonzaga Prep’s Jesuit mission and values.
Physical and Environmental Requirements
Ability to stand and walk for extended periods, operate radios and keyboards, and observe activity across large areas.
Must have the physical capacity to respond quickly to emergencies, including running short distances.
Occasional lifting up to 20 pounds.
Work performed in both indoor and outdoor environments in various weather conditions.
