POSITION SUMMARY:
The Cafeteria Staff’s primary responsibility is to prepare and serve quality food products to the Gonzaga Preparatory School community while maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming environment. Cafeteria employees work as a team to efficiently accomplish daily tasks, ensure food safety, and provide excellent service that reflects the Mission of Gonzaga Prep.
This is a part-time hourly position aligned with the school’s 10-month academic calendar. Additional evening or weekend hours may be required to support school activities and events

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Cafeteria Staff’s primary responsibility is to prepare and serve quality food products to the Gonzaga Preparatory School community while maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming environment. Cafeteria employees work as a team to efficiently accomplish daily tasks, ensure food safety, and provide excellent service that reflects the Mission of Gonzaga Prep.

Requirements
Food Preparation and Service
- Prepare and cook breakfast and lunch menu items, including proteins, starches, and grab-and-go offerings such as sandwiches, wraps, and salads.
- Set up, stock, and maintain serving stations and prep areas with required ingredients and supplies.
- Portion and assemble food items according to menu standards and food safety guidelines.
- Serve students and staff during meal periods with attention to portion control and customer service.
- Monitor and record food temperatures for both hot and cold items to ensure safety and quality.
- Properly cool, label, and store leftovers.
- Assist in the daily production, packaging, and restocking of breakfast, lunch, and snack items to ensure efficient service and readiness for the next day.
Cleaning, Organization, and Kitchen Operations
- Maintain cleanliness and organization in all kitchen, prep, and serving areas, including surfaces, utensils, and equipment.
- Assist with dishwashing, sanitation, and general upkeep throughout the day.
- Follow safe work practices and proper use of cleaning materials and chemicals.
- Open and close kitchen facilities as assigned, including unlocking storage areas, preparing equipment, and ensuring all appliances are turned off at the end of service.
- Participate in periodic deep cleaning and maintenance of kitchen facilities.
- Follow established procedures for inventory, timekeeping, and task documentation.
Qualifications
- Valid State Food Handler’s Permit required.
- High School diploma or equivalent required.
- Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
- Knowledge of safe food handling, cleaning procedures, and general kitchen operations.
- Strong attention to detail, initiative, and ability to complete tasks accurately and efficiently.
- Team-oriented with the ability to work independently as needed.
- Excellent customer service skills when interacting with students, staff, and guests.
- Successful criminal background check and Safe Environment training required.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to exert 20–50 lbs. of force frequently, 10–25 lbs. occasionally, and up to 50 lbs. on occasion while carrying, pushing, or pulling objects.
- Frequent standing, walking, bending, and stooping on hard surfaces.
- Occasional kneeling or crouching and regular fine motor use of hands and fingers.
- Frequent exposure to cleaning chemicals and kitchen equipment in a food service environment.
