Gonzaga Prep Coach's Education

 
FIRST TIME COACHES AT GONZAGA PREP - Please begin by clicking the First Year Coach Formation - Ignatian Education link to the right.
 
ALL COACHES (including volunteer) must complete the following:
 
1.  First Aid/CPR/AED Certification
Each coach must have proof of certification on file in the Athletic Director's office.  First time certification must be a "Hands on Course" done in person.  Renewals can be completed online. Please contact Chris Hawley [email protected] for the next scheduled class.
 
2.  WIAA Rules Clinics - FinalForms
Returning Coaches will need to log into your account in Final Forms.
New Coaches should receive an email when registered as a Gonzaga Prep Coach.  You will need to create an account for FinalForms, My247ed, and NFHS Learn (if you don't already have one). To begin, click on "Click here to access FinalForms at the bottom of the email. Once logged in, you will have a list of available courses.
 
WIAA First Aid/CPR - will be completed in person with Chris Hawley.   AD will enter upon receipt.
 
Please complete the remaining exams:
  • Concussion Management - NFHS Learn (In Final Forms, click sync certifications once complete - must use the same email in NFHS Learn and Final Forms to match accounts)
  • Sudden Cardiac Arrest - NFHS Learn (In Final Forms, click sync certifications once complete - must use the same email in NFHS Learn and Final Forms to match accounts)
  • WIAA General Rules - my274ed (In Final Forms, click sync certifications once completed)
  • WIAA Sport Specific Rules -  Click on the RED FORMS Box at the top of your account:
Final FormsThere will be a short, sport-specific video for you to watch.  Once completed, the FORMS Box will be BLUE.
 
  • WIAA Heads Up Football (*Football Coaches Only) - mywiaa.com (upload certificate upon completion)

Please update your personal information in your account (# of years coaching, etc)
 
Please print your certificates and turn them into your file in the Athletic Director's office.
 
3. Driver Training
All Coaches are required to complete 2 Driver Training Courses.  Please follow the steps in each:
These trainings are to be completed annually.
 
4. Immunizations
All employees working with students must have proof of the Hep B vaccination series or must sign declaring they do not wish a vaccination.  These can be obtained at your local pharmacy. 
This form only needs to be completed once during a coach's tenure.
 
6.  Student Mental Health and Suicide Prevention Training
The Representative Assembly of the WIAA passed an amendment requiring all coaches to participate in a course on diversity, student mental health, and legal aspects (bullying and hazing).  This year, Gonzaga Prep coaches will focus on Student Mental Health
1. A course is available on the NFHS Learn website.  You will need to create an account.  Please return the completed certificate to the Athletic Director's office.
 
 
6.  WIAA Coaching Hours
Each coach is required to earn continuing education hours.  During your first two years of coaching, your must participate in 30 documented hours.  Once you have established yourself as a continuing coach, you are required to complete 5 hours every three years.  These hours can be obtained a variety of ways.  Some are:
  • First Aid/CPR/AED Certification
  • WIAA Coaches School
  • Coaching Clinics
  • Attending other practices
  • Online Courses
Hours must be documented and recorded in your file in the Athletic Director's office.  There are a number of free courses on the NFHS website (http://nfhslearn.com/courses)

7. Virtus - Safe Envioronment Training

Gonzaga Prep uses the Virtus Online program to provide training to our faculty, staff, coaches and volunteers on the prevention of child sexual abuse and to initiate background checks. 

If you have previously completed a Virtus training and have an online account, please go to virtusonline.org, sign in and follow the prompts for your yearly update training. 

If you do not have a Virtus account, please follow the instructions HERE to do your initial training online. Please save and print your certificate upon completion (at your home screen, click on compliance summary to view the certificate).

Protecting God's Children® for Adults is training conducted by VIRTUS® certified facilitators on the prevention of child sexual abuse. The training makes participants aware of the signs of child sexual abuse, the methods and means by which offenders commit abuse, and five easy steps one can use to prevent child sexual abuse. Two videos are the centerpiece of the training: A Time to Protect God's Children™ and A Plan to Protect God's Children™. The facilitators incorporate policies and procedures into the training defining child sexual abuse, addressing the reporting of child sexual abuse, the screening and selection of employees and volunteers, and victim advocacy.

 
8.  Blood Borne Pathogens
For Gonzaga Prep to be in compliance with the  Washington State Dept. of Health, you will need to follow the instructions at the link below and take the online course, then print a certificate and delivering to the Athletic Director's office for your file.
Your exam will be recorded electronically.  Please download the following form, sign, and date.  This form will need to be turned in annually as a record for your coach's file.

9. Sudden Cardiac Arrest Awareness
As of July 2015, the Washington State Legislature (SB5083) requires all people working with young athletes must be familiar with signs of Sudden Cardiac Arrest.  Please watch the following free video (you will need to create an account with the NFHS), print verification, and turn into Athletic Director's office for your file.
Additionally, please review the flyer issued by the WIAA regarding Sudden Cardiac Arrest.  This is the form that all athletes and parents must review.
 
10.  Concussion Management
All other coaches have a short workshop on the WIAA portal.  Please complete the following course on Concussion Management Awareness and turn in a copy of your certification for your file:
