Coffee and Conversation

Coffee and Conversation is an informal opportunity to engage with other parents on issues impacting students at Gonzaga Prep. The Counseling Department offers a different topic each quarter, and, although there are no easy answers to any of the topics presented, our goal is to develop awareness and create a larger conversation.

Parents watched a TED Talk from Julie Lythcott-Haims, in which she discusses raising successful kids without over-parenting. Her book, How To Raise An Adult - Break Free of the Overparenting Trap and Prepare Your Kid for Success, is an intriguing read.

iGen
December 12, 2018
We talked about the generation known as iGen, young people born between 1995 and 2012. What are their characteristics and how are they navigating their world? Where do we go from here? Dr. Jean Twenge has researched and written extensively about generational differences. Her TED Talk provides an overview of iGen, and, if interested in learning more, her book, iGen: Why Today's Super-Connected Kids Are Growing Up Less Rebellious, More Tolerant, Less Happy - and Completely Unprepared for Adulthood is a great resource.
