Training Tips To Prepare for Season

The most important thing a player can do is be in good physical shape for tryouts. This is true for two main reasons: (1) The first week of tryouts often has players receive injuries that could have been prevented had they been in shape. Players should be ready to compete for about 1 and 1/2 hours each day at full pace throughout the tryout week. (2) Players who do not come to tryouts in shape are not helping their cases for making the level of team (Varsity, J.V., C-Squad) that they desire, especially varsity players. If a player is "on the bubble" of making a particular team and has come to tryouts out of shape, the coaching staff's decision may be swayed in a negative way.

To get into shape, players should be doing sprints and distance running. Additionally, core strength training is important. Players who are fit AND strong are bound to have more fun and experience more success.
