Senior Retreats

 

 

MAGIS & SENIOR RETREATS INFORMATION 2017

 

 

Please complete and return your permission form by January 31st to Mrs. Mudd. 

 

 

 

_____ Magis retreat. Seniors leave Prep at 5:50 p.m. on Thursday, February 9th, are transported to Riverview Bible Camp, Cusick, WA, and return to Prep at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, February 12th.

 

_____ Movement and Prayer retreat led by Mrs. Patricia McArdle. Seniors meet at 11:30 am on Friday, February 10th, at MUV fitness at  5501 S Regal St, Spokane, WA 99223, for a three hour experience of movement and prayer. Seniors must wear comfortable athletic clothing; sweats and yoga pants are OK, jeans and skirts are NOT OK. A yoga mat is required. It will be physically demanding!

 

_____ Islamic Center retreat includes a presentation, tour and observing traditional Islamic prayer with Mr. James Pizelo. Seniors meet at 11:00 a.m. at Gonzaga Prep and will be transported to the Spokane Islamic Center, 6411 East 2nd Avenue, Spokane Valley, WA 99212 on Friday, February 10th, They will return to Prep by 1:30 p.m.

 

_____ Christ Kitchen retreat includes lunch and meeting and learning about the lives of homeless and poor women who are getting back on their feet. It is led by Mrs. Kirsten Sabata. Seniors meet on February 10th at noon to 2:00 p.m. at Christ Kitchen, 2410 North Monroe Street, Spokane, WA 99205. Lunch is included.

 

_____ Photography and Spirituality led by Mrs. Karen Snyder and Father Tom Lankenau will meet on February 10th from 9:00 a.m. at the Art building at Prep and from there they will visit Gonzaga University. Students will return to Prep by 12:30 You must have a digital camera, a phone camera is OK, and bring your creativity and imagination. 

                                                               

 

 

Magis Retreat

What to Do To Prepare for Magis

Everyone must attend Mass on Thursday, February 9th, in the Chapel of the Three Companions.

Be at Prep in the east/Perry lot by 5:50 p.m. on Thursday, February 9th, 2017. We return about 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, February 12th. Eat dinner before you come. We will provide snacks but no full dinner on Thursday night.

→ Be prepared for much silence during reflection periods and at night. Leave cell phones at home (or keep on airplane mode) and bring watches.

 

 

What to Bring to Magis

 

  1. BRING Sleeping bag, pillow, toiletries and your own towels. We will be staying at the Riverview Bible Camp in Cusick, WA. Lodging is in heated cabins with bunk beds, bathrooms and showers (Sheets, pillows and towels are NOT supplied).
  2. Casual clothes, sweats OK, a warm coat, sturdy shoes appropriate for mud or snow. There is a lot of outside walking.
  3. Your Search cross necklace.
  4. Pen or pencil; you will be doing a lot of writing. If you keep a journal, bring it.
  5. A watch is helpful. We are on a schedule and you will need to know the time.
  6. A water bottle.
  7. A coffee thermos/mug. 

 

Dietary Restrictions: If you have dietary restrictions you may bring your own food. The menu Magis 2017 Menu can be accessed through the link provided. Please clearly label your food. There is a refrigerator we may use at the campsite and microwave. 

 

Optional to Bring: a Bible, a camera, nut-free snacks to share, a deck of cards, a board game, recreational reading for free time, an ipod/mp3 player for use at recreational times.

 

Don’t Bring: tobacco products, drugs or alcohol, valuable items, homework or school books or a cell phone (if you bring it we can hold it for you). Your cabins do not have locks on the doors so don’t bring valuables.Possession of any substances as outlined in the Gonzaga Prep Student Handbook will result in dismissal from the retreat and necessitate parent transportation home from the retreat center.

The retreat assignments were completed by student application in December and are now closed.

 

Magis. Please inform Mrs. Mudd immediately if you have any special diet limitations or preferences (e.g., vegetarian, vegan, gluten free, lactose free, allergies, etc.)

 

Movement and Prayer. Requirements are to 1) arrive by 11:30 a.m. and stay until 2:30 p.m., 2) wear comfortable athletic clothing; sweats and yoga pants are OK, jeans and skirts are NOT OK, 3) have a yoga mat  and 4) participate in a physically demanding activity. Snacks will be provided so please inform Mrs. Mudd immediately if you have any special diet limitations or preferences (e.g., vegetarian, vegan, gluten free, lactose free, allergies, etc.). The permission slip will be sent out shortly when a space is established. Thank you.

 

Islam. Requirements are to 1) arrive at the Spokane Islamic Center, 6411 East 2nd Avenue, Spokane Valley, 99212, by 11:30 a.m. and stay until 1:30 p.m., 2) participate in a presentation and a tour, 3) observe Islamic prayer and 4) participate in a concluding question and answer session. Snacks will be provided so please inform Mrs. Mudd immediately if you have any special diet limitations or preferences (e.g., vegetarian, vegan, gluten free, lactose free, allergies, etc.).

 

Christ Kitchen. Requirements are to arrive at Christ Kitchen, 2410 North Monroe Street, Spokane, 99205, by noon and stay until 2:00 p.m. Lunch is included. Each lunch includes a sandwich, salad, fruit, dessert and bottled water. Please let Mrs. Mudd know by Friday, January 13, your sandwich choice from this list: 1) Chicken Salad, 2) Tuna, 3) Meat & Cheese, 4) Hummus Sandwich (Vegetarian) or 5) Gluten-Free Lunch (includes curried Egg Salad, rice crackers, & gluten-free cookie).
